SolX Technologies Joins Tech Talk at WOCEE 2025

Pasay City, Philippines — At this year's World of Consumer Electronics Expo (WOCEE) 2025, held from July 30 to August 2 at the SMX Convention Center, SolX Technologies joined innovators and startups addressing real-world challenges through emerging technologies—with a clear focus on making electricity more affordable and accessible for Filipino businesses and communities.

Through the Startup Zone, organized by the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office and the DLS-CSB Startup Network, SolX Technologies exhibited at Booth #E306, where its marketing and engineering teams engaged with hundreds of expo visitors, tech leaders, and potential partners.

During his Tech Talk at the NEXUS Stage, SolX CEO Sergius Angelo Santos shared the company's story of beginnings and its mission to reduce power costs through technology-driven energy procurement. He emphasized the importance of fostering fair competition among all electricity providers, whether they are large or small players.

"We started SolX back in 2017, just after I graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering," he said. "What began as an idea between partners has now grown into a company managing over 130 commercial and industrial facilities nationwide, and delivering nearly ₱1 billion in cumulative energy savings to our clients."

Tackling Southeast Asia's Second-Highest Power Rates

Santos emphasized how SolX's Energy Portfolio Management (EPM) service helps businesses navigate the complex electricity market, reducing operational costs and improving efficiency.

"The Philippines has the second-highest cost of electricity in Southeast Asia. This is the challenge we've been working to address since we started," he continued. "Our clients include companies like Nature Spring and Converge ICT, and our platform enables them to make data-driven, transparent decisions on how they source their electricity."

The Worldbex host echoed the urgency of the issue, noting that their own organization also experiences high monthly electricity bills under Meralco, Metro Manila's primary distribution utility.

Santos then introduced Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA)—a regulation that allows qualified businesses to purchase electricity directly from licensed Retail Electricity Suppliers (RES) such as MPOWER, ACEN, MECO, Shell Energy, and Aboitiz Energy Solutions.

"Our flagship service, Energy Portfolio Management, works by matching industrial and commercial facilities with RES offers through our platform called Power Match," Santos explained. "RES can subscribe to Power Match and directly submit offers. Our system intelligently matches those offers to client demand and contract requirements."

He also discussed long-term savings strategies through solar procurement and multi-RES contracts, giving clients even more flexibility and savings opportunities.

Expanding To Residential

The discussion then turned to SolX's potential to serve residential areas.

"Right now, RCOA regulations are limited to companies that pay over PHP 300,000 per month," Santos clarified. "But with the newly approved Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), we can now consolidate demand from 200 houses in a subdivision to qualify for the same competitive electricity rates. We've already begun doing this as recently as two months ago."

The host responded with enthusiasm: "Hopefully po you get to touch more households. We're looking forward, SolX. And galing po ng technology nyo, congratulations. I'm pretty sure a lot of Filipinos would really benefit from your technology."

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

To close the session, Santos was asked what advice he would give to entrepreneurs just starting out: "To entrepreneurs—reflect. Being an entrepreneur is not an easy life. Ask yourself: Is this for me? Some people don't have the risk appetite to start experimenting in a business," he shared.

"For example, I was a scholar before, and my risk appetite wasn't very high. I just got lucky that one of my partners put in money for my idea." "The people you work with—your co-founders and your first employees—you'll spend more than eight hours a day with them. So it's very important that, number one, you share the same principles and values."The people you work with—your co-founders and your first employees—you'll spend more than eight hours a day with them. So it's very important that, number one, you share the same principles and values.

"At the end of the day, there will be arguments. But as long as you're aligned—not just on where you want the company to be, but how you want to get there—you'll get through it. That's what matters most."
