SteelAsia’s 13MW Compostela Facility Now Saves ₱4.5M Monthly After SolX Facilitates Switch to Shell Energy

SolX Technologies Inc. has successfully switched SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation’s 13MW Compostela facility in Cebu to Shell Energy. Effective February 26, 2025, the switch followed a competitive bidding process on SolX’s Digital Demand-Supply Matching (DDSM) platform—part of its flagship Energy Portfolio Management (EPM) service.

The switch has resulted in monthly savings of over ₱4.5 million compared to the distribution utility rate, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability.

With expert guidance from SolX, SteelAsia evaluated offers from top Retail Electricity Suppliers (RES) using data-driven insights from the DDSM platform, comparing a total of 12 offers based on price stability, long-term value, and strategic business priorities.

Dhea Pabelonia, AVP for Operations at SolX Technologies, added: “This collaboration highlights the power of our Energy Portfolio Management approach. By combining digital tools with market intelligence, we help companies like SteelAsia secure reliable, cost-effective energy with lasting impact.”

SteelAsia’s successful switch sets a benchmark for responsible energy use in manufacturing, showcasing how smart procurement and digital platforms can drive both financial and environmental gains.

Another facility of SteelAsia under the SolX client portfolio—the 71MW plant in Lemery, Batangas—is also progressing toward a switch and is currently in the energization phase. Technical assessments and commercial evaluations are underway, with 13 offers from qualified Retail Electricity Suppliers under review. Discussions are focused on securing the most competitive rate, with renewable energy as the primary source. The facility is scheduled to transition by December 2025, further strengthening the strategic energy partnership between SteelAsia and SolX Technologies.
